Vision Services

Brain pathways that lead to healthy, functioning vision, communicate with nearly every part of the brain. A brain injury occurring in any part of the brain can disrupt these sensitive visual pathways and create severe visual deficits.

Strong visual skills are essential for academic success. All of the fundamental components of learning rely heavily on the strength of the visual skills. It is important to treat vision problems as early as possible in order to enable a child to reach their full potential.

Learning Issues

Reading requires the integration of a number of different vision skills: visual acuity, visual fixation, accommodation, binocular fusion, convergence, field of vision, and form perception. Often vision related reading deficits are overlooked due to children not complaining about how they see.

Reading and Dyslexia

Recent research has shown that ADHD behaviors may actually be a result of vision problems. If your child is fidgety, hyperactive, or distressed by his schoolwork, you may think that a diagnosis of ADHD is obvious. In the last 15 years, many clinical trials have been published and show that many vision problems can affect your child in the same way as an attention deficit disorder.

Developmental Services

Amblyopia (also called lazy eye) is a type of poor vision that happens in just 1 eye. It develops when there’s a breakdown in how the brain and the eye work together, and the brain can’t recognize the sight from 1 eye. Over time, the brain relies more and more on the other, stronger eye — while vision in the weaker eye gets worse.

We take a non-surgical, holistic approach to treatment of your vision. We treat patients with varying presentations of binocular vision dysfunction, post-traumatic concussion syndrome, and patients with reading and learning challenges that may stem from visual dysfunction.
